MEET THE MAKERS

The Creators Behind the Worlds of Sudden Conflict

In a small Melbourne apartment in the thick of 2020’s pandemic, two friends set out to create an engaging, fast-paced miniatures game. What began as a typical late-night session talking about game mechanics and world-building accidentally evolved into the idea that became what is now Sudden Conflict.

Our journey to creating Sudden Conflict began with a simple problem:  traditional miniatures games offered plenty of depth and immersion, but demanded significant investments of time, money and space. Both of us often admired the strategy and complexity of Warhammer 40K but were drawn to the accessibility and quick nature of Magic: The Gathering.

Having met at a board game bar in the heart of Melbourne, we shared a vision for an engaging game without the need for mountains of miniatures, encyclopedic rulebooks or six-hour play sessions. A game that we could enjoy at our favourite bar that was easy to transport, setup, and play in a public space.

Caine Chandler

The architect of Sudden Conflict, Caine’s decades of experience playing, writing and running tabletop RPGs has become the backbone of the game. Sudden Conflict’s worlds were deliberately designed to feel intriguing, drawing players into discovering their secrets. With carefully crafted characters and hidden depths in the interconnected stories that reward players who explore beyond the surface

Jack Philippi

The voice of reason in the partnership, Jack is the grounding influence in Sudden Conflict. His love for simple, fast-paced experiences heavily influenced Sudden Conflict’s playstyle, moulding the game to be balanced and digestible for casual players, while ensuring depth and complexity for more experienced players and tournament play.
